We are located on the upper west side of magnificent Penobscot Bay, considered one of the top sailing bays in the world.
From lovely New England interior villages - such as Palermo, Unity with Unity College and a beautiful railroad with a bright red gingerbread station house and Thorndike - pick your own fruits & berries -to Lincolnville, (cranberry bogs) and then to Lincolnville Beach - with 3 great restaurants, a ferry boat, charming shops and beach - the start of our coastal trip north east.
Thru Northport into Historic Belfast - an artsy place, Belfast is the Shiretown of Waldo County - continue on Rt. 1 to Searsport, one of only 3 deep water ports - watch the big ships come in - roam historic Penobscot Marine Museum, the oldest in Maine with 12 beautiful buildings on campus, wander thru the antique shops and book shops and flea markets and hike the largest uninhabited island on the east coast. Visit historic Stockton Springs, its beautiful harbor and the furthest inland lighthouse in the USA at Fort Point State Park. Continue to Prospect where you will explore the original Fort Knox and go up the Penobscot Observatory, the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.
Continue thru Frankfort (a wonderful marsh for birding and kayaking) to Winterport - visit the Meeting House with the Paul Revere Bell - and make certain you stop at Winterport Winery for a tasting of their award winning wines.
Make Waldo County your choice to stay so that you may visit all the highly advertised sites in Maine in easy day trips - including Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park - or Rockland and the Farnsworth Museum etc.
