The Belfast Historical Society & Museum is housed in a brick Federal-style building, 1835. Museum exhibits include: Percy Sanborn painting gallery, maritime history, ship models, 19th cent. apothecary bench, maps, photographs and notable Belfastians. Did you know the Yankee screwdriver was invented in Belfast? On display in the barn adjacent to the Museum is the old city two-cell jail and a horse-drawn hearse. A children's activity is offered. Free admission.
The Museum is open mid-June-Labor Day, Tuesday-Saturday 11 - 4, until Columbus Day Friday & Saturday 11-4. Off-season open by chance or appointment.
The BHS&M is sponsor of Belfast's Museum in the Streets (R) history walking tour.
